Symptoms of Kundalini Awakening

Below is a list of commonly reported symptoms of kundalini. I pulled the initial list from the wikipedia page, and have been adding and editing it, as I continue to speak with people and compile the research.

This is not an exhaustive list, nor does everyone experience the same combination of symptoms. Each person’s awakening and subsequent experience of kundalini is unique. In my view, the symptoms and movements of the energy generally relate to the condition of a person’s ego, at the moment of awakening and throughout the rest of their lives. The higher the state of consciousness (the less the grip of ego), the less painful and more transcendent the experience becomes.

  • Distinct movements of energy along the spine (often experienced as a snake moving up or down the spine)
  • Extraordinary bliss, feelings of infinite love and universal connectivity, transcendent awareness
  • Intense experiences of synchronicity and/or communion with spirit
  • Involuntary jerks, tremors, shaking, itching, tingling, and crawling sensations, especially in the arms and legs
  • Energy rushes or feelings of electricity circulating the body
  • Intense heat
  • Hot and cold flashes
  • Spontaneous contortions, kriyas, yoga postures, involuntary stretching
  • Visions or sounds, and changes in vision, changes in hearing
  • Diminished or conversely extreme sexual desire sometimes leading to a state of constant or whole-body orgasm
  • Emotional upheavals or surfacing of unwanted and repressed feelings or thoughts with certain repressed emotions becoming dominant in the conscious mind for short or long periods of time.
  • Headache, migraine, or pressure inside the skull
  • Increased blood pressure and irregular heartbeat
  • Emotional numbness
  • Social anxieties
  • Mood swings with periods of depression or mania
  • Psychosis
  • Pains in different areas of the body, especially back and neck
  • Sensitivity to light, sound, and touch
  • Empathic/energetic sensitivity to people, weather patterns, planetary transits
